  • After two, three young wines I usually need something older (or different) and after two young Napa Cabs even more so. I had longer discussions with the Sommelier and after I turned down all suggestions for 5, 10 or 15 year old Napa wines, he told me that the bought some bottles of an old winery that ceased to exist more than 30 years ago. Seeing the bottle being from the much lauded 1978 vintage and in perfect condition, we took the chances - luckily so. This was great old mature Napa Cab which would put a smile on every Bordeaux lover as well. Clearly the consensus WOTN eclipsing some heavyweights (incl. a Harlan 03).

TN: Wonderfully mature nose dominated by precise, fine tertiary aromatics. The same black truffles, wet forest floor, sous bois, tobacco, old leather, mushroom aromas on the palate wrapped around a core of still quite nicely present dark fruit. The tannins are mellowed but still holding the wine nicely together, good, perfectly integrated acidity. Precision, intensity on a very good level. Length ok+.

    Decant: No decant needed.
