Dark ruby, garnet edged. Plummy nose with thyme, dill and vanilla notes. Acids a little bit forward, not sour though. Plenty of plum and cherry fruit, and a great match for our potato-borlotti bean soup tonight. A good showing for a 20 year old zin. Another '89 that lasted well. Decent finish. Bottle #3 of three.

13.7% ABV – 85% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah – tasted on 06/18/09 at GWT #7 One of two wines tasted on this night and a solid Napa Zin. Subdued garnet color with shades of muddy orange evenly throughout the bowl, this bottle was opened and aerated with a Vinturi into a decanter. A bit of mustiness and a slight cork smell initially, which blew off within 30min. Undertones of raisins in the palate and a short finish with some alcohol heat, but not overbearing. At 1hr, the palate is balanced but tart, with most of the heat subdued and a full mouth feel appearing at 15seconds. Truly a sophisticated profile with the finish becoming longer although with a somewhat muted nose at 90min+. A solid performer at 88 and 20yrs from the vine; possibly a point or so higher depending on individual preference.
