PnP, did not need a decant. Very aromatic with cranberry, pomegranate, cherry, strawberry and spice. Layers of fruit, strawberry, cherry, cranberry, spice and a hint of orange rind. Silky smooth texture with a long smooth finish. Beautiful now, should hold a long time, not sure if it improves. Everything seems very well integrated now.

An outstanding PN that required little time to open; essentially pop and pour; immediate floral, spicy essence on the nose (Burgundian quality); strawberry spice with excellent balance, concentration and penetration; medium to long finish; very much a pleasure to drink

A really good bottle of CA pinot (my blind). Very bright strawberry on the nose with strawberry on the palate with some spice and a big palate, but one with structure even if it's within a big core of fruit that somewhat hides it. While everyone settled on CA pinot fairly quickly, there was some 2015 Burgundy talk initially. A very nice bottle of CA pinot and I'm curious what it will evolve into.

Rhys' 2016 Horseshoe Hillside is perhaps the finest California Pinot noir I have ever enjoyed – maybe the finest Pinot outside of the Côte d'Or. The knockout nose shows beautiful, intense black & red cherry, woodsmoke, and Asian spice. Concentrated black fruit and mineral flavors, palate coating, finishing with more of that Asian spice. Bright acidity which helps keep this rich, intense wine vibrant. Excellent.

Opened yesterday. Retasting today at room temp of 72f, so there's no chill on this wine. This was intentional as I wanted to see what the pairing of aeration and room temp would bring out of the wine. Smoky aroma, floral. A few things stand out, that register with my senses. First, there is an underpinning of something loamy, peety in the wine. Sometimes I call this soil. Whatever the best descriptor, there is that quality squarely here. Next, the fruit is a mix of cranberry, pomegranate and cherry. The cranberry seems to be the supplier of the acidity, of the crunchier red side of the fruit, and the pomegranate adding the juicer, sauvage kind of fruit. The cherry is also brisk and present. Along with clove/5-spice, there is a cedary quality to the tannin and into the finish, and while the wine is approachable with the full day of air (in bottle only), some time here is gonna help, to bring things together.
