This was incredibly disappointing. I was overwhelmed by a wood imbued, vanilla oak component. I had to do a double take on the bottle to make sure somebody didn’t slip a modern Bordeaux, or Laurent styled Burgundy in on me. There was pretty, red, fruit down there, somewhere, but I couldn’t get around the sweet, vanilla, creamy, oak, thing going on. This was unlike any Rhys wine I’ve had before.
Drank from a magnum that was open all day. Certainly a unique expression of Pinot that is distinctively different than other domestic producers/appellations. Fairly lean with a good amount of herbal whole cluster but still some ripe black/red fruit coming through. Overall medium bodied in terms of intensity but dense and compact. Likely these need at least 5 more years.

Blind: figured Cali PN - guessed a dialed back William Seylem because of the fruit.
Really surprised when this was revealed because I felt like it was a Sonoma wine. It had a juicy quality to it and was a bit sweet. It certainly has more tannins than a typical Sonoma so I thought maybe it was a off-year vintage resulting in a little more structure. This was only open for a few hours and was drinking amazingly well right from the get-go.

Not only not special, not even as good as many of their wines.
