Aerated with a Vinturi and decanted for one hour. Nose of black raspberry liquor, anise, underbrush, smoked meat and herbs de Provence. Black raspberry, underbrush, anise, smoked meat, herbs de Provence and ripe tannins on the palate. Very long, layered finish. Full bodied. Elegant wine. Served with shepherd’s pie.

Three years since my last bottle and this has developed nicely. Cherry red with a soft translucence at it moves to the edges. Cherries and lavender on the nose. Elegant on the palate, black cherries, raspberries, bit of smoked meat, anise, blueberry. Gorgeous. Fine, firm tannins, beautiful acidity and balance. Finishes long and intense (but not overbearing) with black cherries and blueberries, bit of anise. Drink next 6 to 7 years. 56% Grenache; 13% Petite Sirah; 10% Syrah; 9% Mataro; 7% Zinfandel; 5% Tempranillo. 15.7% ABV but no detectable heat.

Best Saxum I have had in a long time, stunning! Definitely helped by an hour decant, but ready to go after that. Iron fist in a velvet glove, really really nice wine...

Winey Weekend With the Woodwards in Woodinville!!; 2/29/2024-3/2/2024 (Where else?): Wow! After a one hour decant there's still a hint of petillance, not unlike a young Beaux Freres PN. Then the dense fruit core punches you in the gizzard! Black plum, ripe blackberry/compote, and minerals/iron. Serious structure. Needs another year or two: 2025-2036.

A beast! Smoked meat, bacon, some iron. Needs a bit more time to mellow I think, but great in the right setting.
