Saw this on the list at Union Square Cafe and decided to try it. I'm glad I did. Ripe dark berries, surprisingly lively, with some earth and funk, a silky feel and adequate remaining structure. Mature, but can certainly go for a while longer. Lacked a bit of depth, but a very enjoyable bottle.

A Farewell to Jay (Petra and the Beast, Dallas, TX): Stood up for at least 3 weeks. Ullage toward the bottom of neck. Decanted for 3h off sediment then back into bottle. Initially, a funky aroma, though not quite TCA, emerged that had me concerned that the wine was corked or off at the very least.. Took a risk and still brought it to the restaurant. By the 3.5h mark, the funk had mostly blown off and completely dissipated by 4h. Aromas of brown leaves, mushrooms, earth, dried black cherries and a hint of flowers. An elegant palate displayed dried black cherries, brown leaves, earth and flowers. Excellent acids with a seamless, silky texture. Lovely. 92+

Tobacco and earth character on the nose. Really sweet and soft on the palate. Really wonderful character all around. Soft and lively, so good.
