Really nice wine. Varietally correct, and complex Syrah. There’s power here, but with a nice acidic lift that keeps things in check. The wine really wants food with that high acid, but it’s still great on its own. This is some solid QPR for northern Rhone and drinking beautifully.

First night this was good then evolved downward day two. On opening, a prominent streak of minerality - chalky tannin, rocks flavor. A burst of fruit up front, then didn’t return until a few seconds into the finish. Balanced and enjoyable with food and alone. Early second day (breakfast of champions) it has more depth but a medicinal quality to it. The black and red fruit is full on start to finish but starting to show higher alcohol than the label claims (13.5). In any event, enjoyable and I’ll edit this tonight if it changes in any meaningful way. 26 hours later - So this is meaningful. Wow - this wine just turned into something quite remarkable - I’ll have to change my score but ONLY if you decant for a day! Smooth, deep black flavors of tar and really ripe blackberry, soft tannin, balanced acidity. Damn! It’s gone now! The high alcohol I detected morning after has integrated and become part of the wine’s beauty. Crazy.
Took time to open in the decanter; Enjoyed with beef Wellington; Dark fruit; black pepper, day 2 opened up nicely; still dark fruit,; not as much pepper, some earthy and mild smokey noted; no hurry on this one

Structurally great wine here, classic SJ. Blackberry dominates, but held in check with really solid balance. I would guess 3-5 years of good drinking.
