Love when a CA syrah is made in the Northern Rhone style, like this Kick Ranch Syrah. On the nose - grilled meat, smoke, black pepper and flowers like violets, lilacs and lavender. Flavors on the palate are consistent with the nose, plus a warm granite and earth quality. Nice tannins and overall weight. Drinking well now, but the tannins and acid structure hint at a long life ahead of it.

Smoky, grilled meat and bacon on the nose, with an overlay of tar and roses. All that continues on the palette, with a potent black pepper finish. Glad I have one more bottle.

Yeah, I agree with previous score. Lots of fruit on nose, but then on palate a barrage of diverging things: initially something I've never been able to ever discern on Syrah - bacon. But here it is. Then smoked, cured meats. Chorizo, even. Then tobacco and tea leaves. After that some crazy tannins take over, that completely puckers the mouth. At the end, a bit of a grapey, animalistic vibe, which reminds me of some Alicante Bouschets. A whole meal in itself, but not heavy. Very interesting wine. Only the tannins and some of that grape keps it back from getting an even higher score. Think this wine will age for a long time still, so no rush.

Even better this time! Probably because I paired it with tacos. Spice on spice.
