2015 Grosset Nereus was perfumed, harmonious and elegantly spiced. The Clare Valley Syrah was deep ruby in colour without any sediments. Aromas of blackberry, chili and black pepper spices jumped out of the glass, complemented with notes of violet and orange peel. With two hours of aeration, it gained subtleties of game and earth. The mouthfeel was dry and medium-full-bodied, with medium levels of balanced acidity and finely grained tannin. Flavours of bramble, smoke, wet stones and complex spices persisted in a rather long supple finish. The alcohol level was at a moderate level of 13.7%.
According to the winery website, the wine was predominantly Syrah with a dash (5%) of Nero d'Avola, which was responsible for the complex chili spices. The wine was aged in 35% new French oak barriques. 2015 was the second vintage of this wine, and it saw a limited production of 3,200 bottles.

Festival of Alex - Clare Valley Cellar Doors: 95% Shiraz, 5% Nero d'Avola. Smoke, earth, blackcurrant and blackberry. Good mix of sweet and sour fruit on the palate, the tannins are fine and provide good grip. Could use some more time.

Good balance of black fruits and pepper with some star anise. Tannins could use few more years to settle.
