  • Amazing bottle. Decanted two hours prior to drinking. Drinking well now, but has many more years left. Beautifully balanced. Oak has settled down. Tannins are present but not overbearing. Dark fruit, dark chocolate. Cork in perfect shape. Wonderful experience.

  • This ripe and burgeoning Chris Tynan + David Abreu special tilts towards excess, but the intensity and depth of fruit make it hold together (for me). Dark red in color and full in body, the wine offers aromas of boysenberry, graphite, cocoa beans, and gravel. The flavors are saturated, with notes of black cherry, Hershey bar, anise, and espresso, with a grainy and sweet finish that just needs time. Blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot from Thorevilos and Madrona. 15.5% alcohol. Decant three or more hours.

There are (way) more expensive blends of Abreu fruit in the valley - i.e., Bryant Bettina, Colgin Cariad... not to mention anything made by Brad Grimes under the Abreu label (wines that are, in my humble opinion, the best in Napa, setting aside the price). All that said, the Songbook sells for literally half the price. I'm not saying this is a bargain, but it's a solid wine within this pricing context. Tonight a 2014 Maiden out-classed the SongBook, which held its own more than expected. 94 for now, with upside in 2024 and later.

  • Pretty, floral, black fruit and cranberry compote.
    Seductive.
    Gorgeous texture with soft tannins.
Approachable but needs some time to integrate and flesh out.
