  • Simply exceptional. No sign of any bottle sickness though cork fell apart while being extracted. Deep red with shades of brick. Rich deep long flavor with no adverse aftertaste. Could goe even longer. Totally wonderful; what you save wine for.

  • Still plenty of life and interest here, but I found the intensely spicy, cedary wood flavors a bit much.

  • Caveats: this is the oldest bottle of wine I've ever drunk, and I should have stood it on end for longer before opening as there was some grainy sediment after decanting.

    Day 1
At first it was closed, no aroma, not much taste. A half hour in and it revealed earth and currant and pencil shavings on the nose, and some cherry notes. Worth sipping. Another 20 minutes and it became a little earthy/dungy, with some almond/vanilla and some red fruits. It still has quite a bit of tannin left in it. The fruit impact is up front and it has a subtle finish.

    Day 2
Smoother, with more cassis, chive, flower and fruit showing, and still simultaneously refined and structured. The full impact of flavor doesn't last and last, but I really enjoyed this bottle.

I wonder if it would have been even better with even more age, or if the fruit was starting to dissapate. I really can't say, but this had its smooth side and its tannins and enough fruit flavor to be a winner.
