So Avery walks in with a mag of the 2018, which was fantabulous!!! It goes down pretty quick, so I pull this one out. I thought it was spectacular as well. (Yes, we are Vatan hos) This bottle is about minerals and rocks! So many rocks, and flint, and gneiss, then florals, then astounding fruit. I love the-quite hard to put into words- dull, citrusy, white/yellow/green fruit assault, especially as it combines with the rock/floral/fruit components. Balance, purity, power without weight etc., etc., etc!

(Not a) birthday dinner (Hinsdale, IL): Consistent with my note five years ago, this is just too lean and green and tastes too much like sauvignon blanc instead of Vatan (which is, of course, the only reason to drink or buy Vatan -- to drink sauvignon blanc without having to deal with the taste of it). Lean, and almost a bit astringent, this is really an underwhelming edition, especially with the relatively surprisingly high acidity that this has.

Chez Winefool Goodbye Dinner (Chicago, IL): So much richness and density to the fruit but felt like it was holding back a little. Perhaps a slightly closed bottle, yet still enjoyable.

Pnp. This is so good. Very toasty, flinty gooseberry. Saline, iodine, spearmint, chalk. Wouldn't have guessed it were Sauvignon Blanc. Very sophisticated stuff.

The End of Winefoolishness in Chicago (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Lemon throughout with good weight and brightness, just not nearly as complete or layered vs another bottle from a few months ago. Oh well.
