See Rick 4 below. Classic Forman, it’s Napa cab but with a deftness of touch and enhanced complexity. Still my favourite Napa wine. I enjoyed it twice recently, but no rush.

Ric Forman makes some great “first growth” napa cabs. This wine is classic Ric, showing a little young here and demanding some slowOx/decanting. It comes together nieces and acidity prefers some fat for balance. I have a case of this, and I’ll wait another year or two before having the next one….if I can.
What Napa quality delivers is unique. This was very good tonight, but it felt like it needed more bottle time. Very interesting snapshot of the evolution of a top wine, when the fruit becomes a bit more tart and austere on its way to its next stage. Makes you think :)

Small US new arrivals tasting hosted by a merchant. Part of a Forman mini-vertical (2012-16). This was detailed and elegant with a nicely puristic fruit of sweet, red cherry, red currant and cranberry. Precise, nicely structured palate, although with grippy tannin. This needs more time, but will be getting there in 3-5 years. This was the winner of the line-up and should drink beautifully now with a proper decant (I’m guessing 2-3h).

A 65th Birthday Celebration (Schur House - Riverwoods IL): Small glass. Rich aromatic start, less forthcoming flavors are much less giving or complete. Good now, unlikely to have further upside.
