Enjoyed the Failla with a thick-cut pork chop, rosemary balsamic glaze and roasted beets. The wine was tight and a bit astringent when first opened but after a 30 minute decant began to open and evolve into something much nicer. Tons of raspberry and wild strawberry on the nose. Flavors of raspberry, sage, strawberry. It was good on it's own and far better with the beets and balsamic glaze where it made for an outstanding dining experience lifting the flavors of the food while cutting the acidity of the pinot. This wine is still evolving. I will sit my other one down for at least another year to see if more of the earth notes develop.

Disappointing, especially from such a typically excellent producer and vineyard. Robust nose, toward the red fruit side. Medium-dark purple color. Just no action - falls apart quickly, sort of flabby, no particular point of view (or sense of particular place). Good acid, but not integrated - it's like a little extra sizzle or burn following after everything else is done.

Tonight we grilled some wild caught salmon and romaine lettuce. The obvious pairing was a pinot, so I dug out a Sonoma Coast offering from Failla. For those who enjoy pinot, this is quite nice. Loads of ripe red and black cherry, rhubarb, ripe strawberry, good acidity and a medium long finish.
