  • One of only 3.460 bottles made. 12.0% ABV.
NOSE: Clean, floral, grapey. Lily of the valley, white peach. With time also ripe Williams pear, honeysuckle, rose water, melon. (89p)
TASTE: The arrival is fruity with just a hint of sweetness. On the mid palate white peach, green grapes, rose water. Clean as a whistle. Medium to medium light mouth feel. Slightly viscous or oily. In the medium to long aftertaste; Galia melon, white peach, peach stone. (88p)
OVERALL: Imagine a 11,5 year slightly off-dry Muscat being this fresh and fruity, tasting of fresh fruits as if they had been just picked off of their tree or vine. Pure drinking pleasure and a perfect aperitif wine. With its delicate hint of sweetness and vibrant freshness it should also work perfectly with some lighter foods. I'm thinking hams as well as white fish in creamy sauces. It is labelled "semi sweet" but just like maturing Rhine Riesling Kabinetts and Spätleses it has "eaten up" most of its sugar, plus the still vibrant freshness and acidity balances this out very nicely. Mature but vibrant and fresh. Should keep for another 2-3 years, but will probably not develop any complexity (drink until 2025).
    TOTAL SCORE: 88 (89) points.

  • NOSE: Lovely nose with pure fresh mango, lemongrass and very Sauvignon Blanc like with gooseberry, white currrant and cat pee (the nice version or "lemongrass-cat pee" as my wife named it). Hints of smoke a la Lapsang Souchong tea (89p)
TASTE: The arrival is refreshing, slightly sweet-and-sour, fruity, juicy with lemon, lime, green gooseberries and white currrant. The body and mouth feel is very in line with Verus' other white wines; medium light bodied but still very substantial, elegant, mineral, structured and long. It is labelled "semi sweet" but there is so much freshness / acidity that the sweetness isn't very noticeable. An excellent food wine, try with light meat or lightly spiced asian dishes. The exit is long, fruity, mineral and seductive, making you want to immediately have another sip (89p).
OVERALL: Lovely 5 year old Moscato Giallo which smells and tastes almost like a best-of-the-two hybrid of Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. I don't see any immediate urgency to drinking this up now, I think it will keep and develop for at least another couple of years. TOTAL SCORE: 89 points (but I was on the verge of giving it 90, for the pure pleasure and drinkability).

  • Nose: Very grapey fruitiness, citrus and muscatell.
Taste & palate: Initially starts out seeming light bodied and slim. Fantastically clear fruit, not least for being a (Yellow) Muscat. Some sweetness and lots of refreshing acidity makes this wine slightly rounded, a bit "sweet & sour" but still very refreshing.
This wine is equally perfect as an aperitif as with slightly spicy or smoked food.
It stays "slim" but repeated tastings reveal that the light body is more about an elegant, structured and partly closed fruit core. Some of this core opens up with time in the glass but some remain and bear promise of future development and a richer wine (similar to my impression of Verus' young Rieslings).
This drinks wonderfully now but should have potential for developing and putting on more weight over at least the next 2-3 years.
