Have never had this wine before, and I was very surprised how much I liked this. I have looked for Malbec's for the last couple of years. This is a great grape and a winery that is doing a very good job.
The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like alcohol/hot, molasses, pomegranate and plum. It tastes like black pepper, cinnamon, pomegranate, prune and black currant (cassis). The body is medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium.

With smoke and cedary wood on the nose, with blue and black fruit on the nose as well. Palate has more blue fruit (blueberries) with spice. Zippy, drinks well now, one more year to ease out and into itself. Works at $15.
Two hours in opened up and broadened out. The cedar turned to vanilla oak, the smoke turned out to be my fireplace. The black fruit soften and the wine became higher tonned. Not as high tonned as the "main" Catena wines (which were really quite strawberry). Different, but at the price I think I would take this one.

A bit closed, or else an underwhelming nose. Dark fruits, cassis, a touch of graphite. Soft, well integrated tannins. My wife wants to add plum but I stand by cassis... Easy drinking. Good QPR, definitely. Maybe not quite enough acidity to be the BBQ and pizza wine we wanted for the night, but for a $10 glass, it's decent

Starting to get past its drinking window. Still good value for the money.

just what i look for in a $10 Malbec.
pop and pour. Big fruit. present but integrated tannin+acidity and a lush nose. this is all of the above.
very ripe dark berries, currants, cooking spices, and maybe something a little sanguine.
drink now through 2015 but this is definitely for immediate consumption.
