We did not expect too much (Cakebread's forte is not PN), but were somewhat pleasantly surprised. While not a style of Pinot I gravitate towards (too fruit forward, not enough acidity, little finesse), it was well made and enjoyable. I imagine folks who like very fruit forward wines (i.e. fans of current Napa cabs) may enjoy this PN - doubt any PN drinker will find much of interest here though.

Winemaker's Lunch with Bruce Cakebread at The Spectator, Westminster. Limited notes. The least impressive of the flight. Brambly über ripe fruit, fresh and clean - very forward and far too simple for the price tag. For drinking in the short term.

Medium-to-pale crimson color with a transparent edge. The nose shows off lovely earth notes with hints of saddle leather on restrained dried red and black berry, herbs and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with attractively young, gripping tannins clamping on fresh acidity. Flavors of red cherry, licorice, Anderson Valley earth, cigar box, and leather form the core. Delectable and full of character to the very end. Great stuff! Drink now with 30 minutes decanting until 2021.
