WOW...Aged syrah from Austin Hope. I love the "drink by 2013" that is on this one. 185 community holdings as of today, and popped mine tonight. What a treat!! 91 pointer. Aged Paso Syrah right at the top of the hill. This was placed in the back of the chiller after finding it was a mixture of 55 Syrah, 20 Grenache, 20 Mourvedre, 5 Petite Sirah. The petite sirah closes this one out, but the aged syrah on the front... Wine poured a slight violet color. Very mild bricking. The wine had kind of an off nose - orange peel, cinnamon, nutmeg(?). The front of the wine had very tamed acidity, stark difference from 2013 where the fruity syrah gripped the front -- this wine was aged syrah and grenache (fig, a hint of plum, not tart, not acidic, not sweet, citrus heading towards the middle). The wine does take a nosedive into a more inky middle like last time. Herbal and dark on the finish, with VERY TAMED tannins compared to 2013. A little bit of black pepper on the finish. Not as "big" of a wine compared to 2013, but I believe probably a bit more complex. This one isn't going to improve much more in the bottle, so I'd probably plan to drink in the next year. This was a delight of a wine to "rediscover" 2.5 years later, and a heck of a wine to pair with pizza tonight. Drink by end of 2016.

Nice big red. Took a while to open up. Decanting helped. Went very well with beef brisket.

Smooth, complex, still the best red blend in my book. Glad we have a few more in the cellar.
