See Montepasto a few comments down. I think this is even better with age as more extreme elements are harmoniously integrated. It is not classic Rioja. It is a different but no less enjoyable wine. For me its character is more California or Rib del Duero than Rioja. But it’s no Parker fruit bomb. This has poise and elegance to match its rich flavours.
This was a balanced, full-bodied Tempranillo with a rich full mouth feel and a sustained finish. Deep, smoky blackberries. Long legs. Decanted about an hour before dinner. Excellent food wine. Paired with marinated, grilled swordfish and ratatouille and riced cauliflower. Very enjoyable.

Modern & Terroir red Rioja: (Morden, Hairy Temranillo, 20m 90% new FR oak, 10% US oak) Feels relatively light bodied - there's a perfect balance in the mouth, notwithstanding the 14.5% alcohol. Soft and even. Acidity is medium. Sweet ripe sugary plums, a bit of overripe jammy notes, but in a pleasant way.
