This wine had the heavy task of passing after the Chambertin 1999 Rousseau. I chose it because of the opinions I read on the internet, this cuvée was described as “Burgundy Grenache”.
Nose of crushed raspberry. Only the garrigue in the background keeps us away from Burgundy.
The palate is magnificent in its purity and delicacy. The juice is sweet, with this raspberry as dominant as it is bright, sprinkled with aromas of thyme and lavender. The juice unfolds slowly, aromas of leather and brown sugar are born, but always in an ethereal way. Once again, without the finesse of Provençal herbs, we would go straight to Vosne, what about a beautiful Romanée Saint Vivant? The wine works more on the breadth while the Chambertin is deep, but the Chateauneuf is just as noble, a real quiet force. Great feminine finish, an exquisite blend of fig, floral and lavender that stretches out in majestic length.
Great Chateauneuf, simply a great wine, which is both dense and airy.

From bottle with excellent fill and showing minimal signs of age for being 33 years old. Superb! Tasted almost like a rich and full-bodied Burgundy. Still has at least a decade of life.

Crazy high acidity with lots of woody notes. Still quite young. 94+
