  • Initial whiff of sulphur blows off. A relatively dry, angular and almost austere style (for Pfalz certainly), more about minerals than about fruit but not lacking stuffing, very terroir-driven, energetic, good length. Michael Schmidt's simile of a mango in a pine forest seems very apt. Probably not everybody's cup of tea but I like it.

  • An austere Riesling that - at least in my case - suffers from too much sulfur (Stelvin). Sour nose of apple and struck match. Unfortunately it does not get better with time and air; I gave it two whole days. Bone dry, lean and mean on the palate. Here the sulfur isn't that much of a problem, the wine is drinkable enough but really quite thin and unforgiving. The ascetic flavor profile displays delicate flavors of apple and grapefruit, along with some stony minerality. Adequate with food, without I can not imagine anyone getting any pleasure out of this wine. I really hope this was an off-bottle.
