Another great bottle. Took a few minutes for some of the oak and smokiness to blow off. Very similar to my last bottle. Opened at a party for my brother and his wife and it was quickly empty.

A decent aged Sonoma Coast Pinot that had a nice nose and a little too much secondary and tertiary notes with a subdued finish for me to consider it anything above where I finally rated it. However, I think it had a nice dark cherry and spice box mix on the palate. The initial nose smelled of cherry pie, minerality, and some dirt was a nice touch on this ten year old Pinot. I still have a few more that I will make a conscious effort to finish off soon. Drink them if you have them would be my recommendation.

I described it as bitter. My guests said "stemmy", and I think that is more accurate. The aftertaste was strong and very unpleasant, even after running it through an aerator and over an hour of decanting. After leaving the bottle open all night (about 12 hours after opening) it was greatly improved, but still noticeable. I tasted this at the winery in 2012 and liked it very much. Very disappointed with this bottle. If I could chalk it up to bottle variation, I wouldn't vote "I don't like it", but I can't, so I did.

This bottle embodies why I will not be sorry to see Antonio Galloni take leave of his California Pinot Noir duties at The Wine Advocate. He seems to capture the flavors and style of this wine quite well in his written notes wherein he writes: “bursts from the glass with super-ripe red fruit, pomegranate, cola, flowers and spices. A juicy, forward Pinot,…” but then he assigns it a score of 86 points. Does his description sound like an 86 point wine? Clearly he has a bias against juicy Pinots that burst from the glass. I do not. Greg Walters describes the same flavor profile, and awards a score of 93. Josh Raynolds likewise admires this style in general and this wine in particular as evidenced by his score of 92 points. I would add a note of flowery prose, except that I really have nothing more to add to Walters’ note. I think he nailed it, though I agree with Raynold’s numerical assessment. Regardless, somewhere in the 91-93 range is about right. 86 points is insultingly low.
