Something of a musky nose—maybe, mushroomy. Fairly light on the tip of the tongue—some blackberry hint—but, definitely not in your face with fruit. Some hint of herbaceousness, but I could not tell you what herb. Certainly not overly tannic. So, it is an easy to drink wine. However, I’m getting a bit of heat at the back of the palate.

A visit to Enkidu (Enkidu): Ruby/purple in color. Interesting N. Rhoneish nose. That is green olives, raspberries, floral (violets), and some black cherries. At this point, this seems a bit shut down on the palate, showing some black raspberries and an earthy quality. A bit cumbersome, but many 09's are right now. I suspect a year helps it out. Even so, this is a cool climate style of Syrah and I would guess less than 14% Alc. Nice showing.

Vintage Select Industry Tasting (Vintage Select Warehouse, Houston, TX): Different from the Kick Ranch Syrah, this gives a great floral aroma of violet, blackberry, smoke, pepper. On the palate, very restrained and balanced with dark red fruits, blackberry, pepper, anise, and spicy oak. Long balanced finish. Excellent stuff.
