Not the most complex wine in the world, but still beautifully fresh and in a great place. Popped and poured, good to go from the start. Wish i had more.

fantastic. very fresh. nothing but strawberries and cherries on the nose with a touch of green pepper and wet stone. over the course of an hour, the bell pepper becomes slightly more pronounced and a bit of barnyard emerges. for $20, wonderful aged bourgueil.

Unfortunately not on the level of my other two bottles - greener and more austere with very little fruit. It comes across rather one-note; there's a lovely scent of fresh forestal greenery but in the mouth it's quite thin and acidic.

Old Haut and Young Yquem (Vernon): If the anti-flavor elite need a poster child, I nominate this bottle. This bottle is brought to you by the letter A(cid) and the color Green. Nose of green peppercorns, bell pepper, fresh herbs. After several minutes, I think I sensed some berry on the nose, but that might have been wishful thinking. On the palate: austere, acidic, bracing, tart, thin, spiny, and very very green. The great hunt for fruit ended in vain. I am told that other bottles contained hints of fruit (perhaps an accidental blackberry contamination in the winery).

A little austere and tart initially, but really opens with air to show fresh red fruits and cassis flavours seasoned with fresh herbs, cedar and a dusty earthiness. This is quite light on its feet with some fine grained tannins and a bright acid spine that make it really easy to drink. Revisited at the end of the night, and it had really opened aromatically with the fruit deepening and a surprising stony mineral element emerging. I'll give my other bottle a little more time in the cellar.
