  • Wednesday wine session at Chateau YB. Tasted blind. Pop and poured.
As high octane and forward as the last I tasted. Sweet coconut oak more apparent, and the fruit more raisiny. Feels rather Amaroneish.

  • Free and easy theme at ES BK. Pop and poured. Drank from bottle over 1 hour.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of sweet earth and ripe and intensely sweet concentrated red cherries. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (15.9%), smooth highly integrated melt in the mouth tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet black tea leaves, ripe concentrated sweet red cherries, earth, licorice, sweet baking spices, savoury salty black olives/herbs. Long finish.
Very good quality. Lovely Zinfandel. As smooth and as good as its gonna get. Not for further ageing. Fruit still very much alive but I fear the structure may not be able to hold it much longer. As it is, some already feel the intensely sweet fruit is rather overly dominant.
