Dense purple color, minimal bricking, with viscous legs and medium weight in the glass. Blackberry and raspberry aromas, followed by high menthol (possibly from the alcohol heat) and white pepper spice notes. Presents on the palate with initial brambly blackberry up front, with cassis and a hint of cedar wood (doesn't come across as oaky, however); on the midpalate there's a continuation of the berry fruit, but with a nicely complementary acid component. Plush texture with medium to big weight in the mouth, and a long, long finish. While it doesn't have the structure/tannins to come across like a big CA Cab, I would not say this wine is subtle or nuanced. It is decidedly New World in the sense that it leads with its fruit, but the fruit is also effectively balanced by acid, and works well with the texture. This is not Ridge's most distinctive offering, but it is a solid and well put together package that punches significantly above its price point. Would go well with many different foods (though it requires something with sufficient richness to avoid getting buried).

Good Zin blend. Paired well with cajun salmon as well as filet mignon. Fruity with a hint of spice.
