Really enjoyed this. Brought back great memories of our visit to the winery. Faint earthiness on the nose. Deep dark garnet. On the palate much lighter than expected from the color. Dry red fruit rounded out with nice earthiness. If blindfolded I’d say this was French. (That’s a compliment!) No signs of being past prime yet.

Pop and pour, with a perfect cork. Reeked of barnyard and wet hay. My research on Dolcetto referenced a "pronounced earthiness", but this was a truly arresting and unpleasant funk. When consumed on its own, it was hard to detect anything aside from the pungent odor of manure. Drinking it with food (Chicken Marsala) lifted a hitherto hidden layer of fruit lurking beneath the funk, elevating it to "no longer completely unpleasant". But the foul aroma was far too much for me to recommend it. We gave the wine nearly 2 hours to see if the funk would dissipate, but it did not. It may have been flawed, but since the cork was perfect and it was mostly palatable when paired with food, I hesitate to write it off as a bad bottle rather than a characteristic I simply do not like. That said, I'm going to refrain from leaving a score since this is the first and only Dolcetto I've had, and I'm not sure what to expect. If it's normally like this, it is clearly not something I will ever buy again.

Very dry when tasted without food. No need to decant. Jalapeño poppers paired perfectly. The spice of the jalapeños brought out the fruit in the wine and changed the dryness to a lovely palate. The wine complemented the spice and did not bring out too much pepper.

Clear, deep garnet with no rim browning. Leather, cassis, tar. Very low acids, medium tannins. Fennel. Medium balanced finish.
