From the Frühmesse vineyard in Alsheim. After a meh 2020 Juwel Silvaner, this was a pleasant surprise. Made in the Trocken "GG" style Pale to pale gold color. Floral nose with apple and stone, maybe a bit of mirabelle. Palate is weightless with golden apple, stone, grape seed. Flowers and vanilla weave in and out. Excellent.

Someone recently described Lagrein as belonging to that group of "lightweight peppery wines with guts." I would say for this Carlotto the description both fits and doesn't. Nine years after the vintage this wine is more of a middleweight. The pepper is toned down a bit and the tannin has smoothed. The fruit shows both red and black very elegantly. There remains a slightly abrupt dry finish that is more suitable for richer foods than pizza with arugula and speck, but the wine still works with it. Excellent.

Muted aromas. Classic Mosel flavors with lime, lime pie, peach and apricot along with slate. There is a healthy acidity to this wine as well. Light-bodied yet manages an almost viscous feel Flavors do not change much as it slides through the palate but one is left with an invigorating aftertaste thanks to the citric acid. This was quite nice though nowhere near the lofty heights of the MFW review. In all fairness it does suggest holding until 2030. I must agree with holding, even though a positive experience is currently possible. There may be fireworks in store much later. Excellent. On day 3: Flowers, stonefruit and slate on the nose. On the palate the acidity is present but weakened, and there is a powerful apple sweetness to the wine. Would score this much lower today. Day 4: Similar nose to day 3. On the palate it's ? What? Acidity like day one and the sweetness seems tamed. I'd give it a point higher than day 1!
