  • 2007 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Single Vineyard Steinhauer Ranch Vineyard

A pour from a the bottom of a magnum is murky but still deep ruby with just a touch of fading towards the rim. On the nose this shows a lot of poise for the vintage and the era, with hints of graphite and mint accenting ripe black fruit, savory earth and nutty oak aromas. Full bodied on the palate with medium acidity, still quite grippy and slightly drying tannins and a noticeable alcoholic heat giving this a more aggressive feel than the nose suggests. Tasty enough but I wonder if this just needs another year or two in this format to settle in.

  • 2022 Kistler Chardonnay Sonoma Mountain

Light, hazy gold. On the nose this is open and almost clamorous, leaping from the glass with dare I say old school aromas of baked pineapple, tarte tatin, roasted cashews, marigolds, citrus confit, crème fraîche and toasty oak. On the palate this is medium to full bodied, but honestly, a touch lighter than the nose suggests, with bright acidity and a sappy texture driving flavors of pineapple, lemon and toast. This isn't exactly fascinating but it is tasty and pleasing.

  • 2022 Domaine de Sacy - Karine Millet Sancerre

Very pale straw with reflections of green. Classic 21st century Sancerre: bright and crisp but with very, very little herbaceous character. On the nose this offers aromas of green apple, lime, a touch of kiwi, white flowers, lees and perhaps the faintest hint of cut grass. On the palate this is medium bodied but round and succulent in texture with crisp medium+ acidity and excellent cut. This isn't the last word in complexity but there's enough here for this to be both a crushable summertime Sancerre, and worthy of interest.
