Much fresher than the last bottle or two. Slight hint of green in the glass set the stage for aromas and flavors in a fascinating sweet spot between primary and secondary. No nuts and honey, but no citrus and tree fruit either. Just layers and layers of complex flavors sustained by surprisingly lively acidity. A great showing for this bottle.

This was the third 2012 Calera sampled recently (full bottles of Reed and Mills and a sample of Jensen at a tasting), and all were showing beautifully. I once heard David Ramey describe his Pinot Noir style as "somewhere between Russian River slurp juice and Sonoma Coast hareshirt wine" (paraphrasing a bit), and I think that describes these wines perfectly. They don't lack for fruit or extraction, but with a few years of bottle age deliver impressive transparency and balance. This is in early maturity but I suspect will plateau soon. A truly lovely bottle.
