Maybe a bit early to check in on 05s but given this bottle turned me onto this fabulous producer why not? Again this bottle showed rather ready and hedonistic. Soy sauce, rose pedals, slight meatiness but also wonderful lift with mineral cranberry Finish and satiny tannins. It could be a mini bit more complex but that should come with time. What stands today is a truly hedonistic Eche from the sisters. For me possibly top 3 Eche out there, definitely top 5. Wonderful! Now-2050

A touch fatter than the 2010 BBM side by side... and a touch less complete than the Batard 14 on the other side. Yet, still an immensely enjoyable chard that stand-alone would have been sensational.

9/2/2014 7:08:00 AM - Hi Ban I don't recall off hand if I have had any champagne by Cedric Bouchard, but the Bouchard family makes very good wine from Burgundy, so I would think he has some good experience with the varietals. I have tasted a lot, in mass tastings and don't often get to writing TNs on all of the sparklers, but I like most styles of champagne or at least can appreciate them. I have only had a few that I considered undrinkable, when younger, or aged enough to have the acidity mellow a bit.
On Talbot, 2010 is very good, but it was a very good vintage and for the price Gruaud-Larose is the wine to buy as it is their best since the 1982 which so many loved and only about $5US more. I suggested 2011 because the off-vintages or just okay is when you really see the impact of the good wine consultants and the extra effort of sorting with a light board, the new equipment in use with the old stuff gone. I will buy a couple bottles of the 2010. The 2009 is quite good as well. Talbot is probably the biggest Chateaux of all the classified growths in hectares, so they really need to get everything down with such large volumes. Anyway, I love the Leovilles, all of them and Talbot has its fans and critics alike. I just think the closer to Pauillac the more you get those fun secondary and tertiary characteristics. Thanks for the note.

Sadly corked, two bottles of 05 Pucelles (original and late release) were wonderful though during this lunch.
