  • 2016 Davide Carlone Boca

I am duplicating a note here that I added for my Ca’ Rozzeria 2016 Boca. The label said Boca, the cork said Davide Carlone. I believe it is the same wine (for those who do not know Rimmerman and Garagiste, he sometimes purchases wine from a producer and sells it under his own Ca’ Rozzeria label). This was relatively high priced for one of these things, close to the winery price, and I can see why:

Drank this over 3 days. The cork said Davide Carlone Boca, and the image on the cork matched the image on the Carlone bottling. This was terrific. On day 2, we paired it with planked salmon, and it was absolutely sublime. Rosalie said it reminded her of a great Pinot Noir, but the color was different. It had lots of cherries, plenty of acidity, and the body of a good Pinot. I should have bought three cases instead of three bottles.

4/20/2020 1:01:00 PM - Hi Tony! I am glad you like the Tenuta di Castellaro wines. Their dessert Malvasia di Lipari is also very good, but not yet available in Texas. I know the local importer/distributor, however, and I am hopeful that they will add a six-pack or so to their next shipment. Cheers!

3/20/2019 12:11:00 PM - Tony, I would agree! These BDX people really do know wine. I found them only recently in '17 while there on a trip with a Napa winemaker (who is French). It was quite the learning experience. His cousin Didier Cuvalier is the owner of Poyferre. We had a tremendous visit there! Cheers....Mark

Although there is not a lot of overlap in our cellars you have written over a thousand notes. Besides, I grew up in Johnstown, not far from your neck-of-the-woods. It didn't take you too long to figure out the value of CT either.

7/31/2018 10:48:00 PM - Just picked up a few bottles of 2015 Bruno Giacosa Roero Arneis based off of your review. Hope all is well with you. Coming to Napa anytime soon? Cheers buddy!

1/31/2017 9:45:00 AM - Hi, and thanks for becoming a fan. Yes, I have been to the winery, many times. Have enjoyed their wines for some time. Their 2015 Dolcetto should not be missed. Their 2013 Barolo wines, about to be released, are outstanding as well. I spend about 5 mos. each year there, it's my passion, and more.

11/7/2016 6:01:00 AM - Hi Tony: Thanks for your note. I see you have a nice collection, mostly CA, which I have not concentrated on. I, like you though, certainly enjoy the older Bordeaux wines. Paul

5/22/2015 8:49:00 AM - Thanks Tony. FYI, I founded Domaine Hudson in 2005 but sold it in 2011 as part of my divorce. The new owners have kept the name and wine bar concept. The food is still outstanding. Please let your son know about it and keep it in mind if your travels bring you to Wilmington, DE. Cheers.
