A high-end 2005 Bordeaux blend from Washington State that is ready to drink now and over the next 3-5+ years, the 2005 Starfire is beautifully scented and balanced, just entering a secondary phase with enough primary red fruit, tobacco, graphite and softening tannins to please, well, just about everyone. Best after 2-4 hours of air but also darn good right from the cork pull, the 2005 Starfire is not a “yum ball”, rather, it is based on a very serious cepage from a well-heeled Washington State house that cannot get out of its own way (they are recognized as one of the most desirable houses in the state). The 2005 demonstrates why that’s the case and this original lot was sourced due to a friendship that still exists to this day.
