Thursday, February 16, 2023 - Overall: balanced GSM that I would buy again; good value at Costco. The alcohol is probably a bit high so I would chill it down to at least “cellar temp” next time.

Appearance: somewhat translucent, on the purple side of ruby

Nose: Grenache dominated with strawberry, raspberry, but there is underlying smokey meatiness and pepper. The fruit almost smells candied and sweet, which might be partly due to the high (15%) alcohol. The alcohol does burn the nose a bit and makes me think drinking this a bit cooler would be good.

Palate: the alcohol makes its presence known; the sweeter red fruit profile comes through on the palate, although this is not a sweet wine. The tannins are balanced, but a little green and bitter. There is some salinity on the palate that carries into the finish.

Finish: medium, pleasant, drying, some salinity that makes me want to take another drink
