Saturday, March 12, 2011 - Magnum Madness 2011! (Marshall's place): A lot of folks found this a bit large on this night, but it surprisingly didn't come across as such for me. Certainly there is plenty of spicy oak on the nose, but there's also this thick, funky meat smell that's interesting. The palate is large in scale, creamy and lush, with nice wood spice balancing it. The savior comes with high levels of tart acids on the finish which keep the big fruit and tannins tame. The acids are what I'm primarily left with on the palate. Without the acid this wouldn't be too interesting, but with it I found it quite enjoyable.
