Saturday, May 19, 2018 - Tasted both this bottle and a 2005 R. Lopez Vina Tondonia Reserve. I'm new to Rioja, so I wanted a new vs. old world style experience. Both were excellent in different ways. The Muga was big, dark and clearly oaky. Dark fruit, mushrooms and loads of tannin. It's a viscous wine that fully coats the mouth. Ate with a filet. I double decanted, but it still needed more time. Started to develop nicely after about an hour. Hard to say which one I like more, but leaning toward the Muga.
