Sunday, January 19, 2014 - Decanted about 6 hours and consumed with an aged ribeye. Pleasant, run of the mill CA cab nose. Fairly simple, fruit forward profile: dark fruits, vanilla, maybe some cedar and a touch of something green, and certainly oak (no surprise). Medium bodied, medium finish. Tannins very present, yet smooth enough. Room to age. Received as a gift; not a producer I seek out.

1/20/2014 6:07:00 PM - I think 6 hours is way too much to decant this wine. This is a wine that - as you suggest - you take it for what it's worth, which is a nice expression of the terrior and a typical CA style, but I'm curious as to what more you were trying to coax out of the wine with such a long decant. Very few wines improve with that long much air.
