Sunday, March 25, 2018 - I am once again amazed by the high-level performance of the San Mateo Pinot. The nose was beautiful, with sweet cola at first sniff, which was quickly followed by crushed strawberries (stems and all) with marine-influenced minerals, mint leaf and a hint of tomatoes on the vine. On the palate, I found juicy, soft textures with spice-laced fresh cherry, which washed across the senses, along with hints of orange and exotic inner florals. It finished long and fresh as the orange turned to hints of grapefruit and the cherry became more like cranberry, yet throughout the entire experience it was lifted, ripe without being sweet, and wonderfully fresh, as it's core of vibrant acidity kept the mouth watering. I wish I had bought cases of the wine.
