Thursday, March 21, 2024 - Took me a while to adjust expectations to what was in the glass. And because of that, it took a few minutes to recognize how really excellent this wine is. We decided it may be showing what old-style Brunello was actually like before. The wine was light in appearance - like a cool climate pinot noir but earthy, high-minus acid, bright red cherry and menthol. Really fine tannins that were medium-plus. Red currant. On the nose it was earth and menthol and cherry. In the mouth it was that plus spice and red currant. Elegant and finessed and with a finish that carried on and on. Such an exceptional wine. In a grouping (with prime grade NY steak and grilled asparagus) with a 2000 Leoville Barton and a 2004 Cappellano Pie Franco. Sometimes we just get lucky.
