Sunday, August 22, 2021 - From 37,5cl, perfect cork, decanted 1 hour, virtually no deposit. The initially very unpleasant funk blew off, leaving an unusually (in my previous experience of d'Armailhac) expansive, expressive scent of ripe dark red fruit, with the expected cedar, tobacco and graphite Pauillac notes very much in the background. Broad, sweet entry, with generous, ripe bramble-tinged fruit; seamless transition to the excellent, juicy mid-palate—brimming with juicy ripeness leavened by hints of cool eucalyptus(!), mint and—finally, just before swallowing—the blackcurrant I'd been missing so far. Mouth-watering, moreish, long finish, with deliciously fine, astringent tannins. The first GCC, and a big step up from the previous bourgeois half-bottles (Phélan, Angludet and Gloria) tasted from my 2009 en primeur purchases. Just gorgeous (from this format) right now, but no hurry of course. 91(+)P
