2009 Château d'Armailhac

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

92 Points

Saturday, October 31, 2020 - I initially gave the wine 91 because it does lack a certain depth (is, in fact, rather spindly). But it is well made, delicate and with a refined slightly understated style. Lovely perfumed nose (almost Margaux-like) with flavours of dark fruit, mocha and tea; svelte across the palate, with soft tannin and a good if slightly drying finish around the edges. After 2-3 hours in the decanter, it does put on a little more weight without losing its charm.
So, it all depends on what you want out of a glass of red wine, and how broad your palette is to appreciate grace and elegance instead of solidity and depth. In the end, 92 points because the latter qualities seem more easy to come by the former qualities.
