Friday, June 1, 2012 - Double Blind at Mike O's - Embarrassing!; 6/1/2012-6/2/2012 (Home of Mike and Sandra O.): Opened and poured in the glass, sat a couple hrs before tasting. Nose was rather close for the most part, with hint of oak/barrel funk, saline, and cassis. Currants come through on the palate, very polished, concentrated, with fine tannins. Fresh has a definite freshness along with a lush density, though overall mouthfeel is medium in body and plush. Lengthy finish with vanilla, saline, chocolate, and black currants. Clearly has some oak to integrate, with polished tannins and good concentration and poise. Will revisit tomorrow, but not as expressive or enjoyable now as hoped, revisit in 5-10yrs.
Day 2,blind to the group. slightly more accessible, with a rather dark fruit character and showing a little flint and saline. Very difficult to nail down as a Paulliac. '09 left banks have been rather closed to me.
