Saturday, July 2, 2011 - Light color, great red fruits, hints of green and stems, background barrique notes, hints of minerality. On the palate very high acidity, good midpalate depth with an old world firmness, very high tannins that are not integrated yet. Wine is on the hard side balance wise with acids and tannins exceeding soft elements of the wine... good length, good intensity, ok complexity. Wine has some finesse, a very very firm texture, and would be a great ringer in a Burgundy tasting as it really doesn't have the midpalate sweetness that is so common in new world pinots. Problem is this wine needs more flesh for its firm bones and I don't see it becoming more balanced with time sadly... like what he is trying to do here though.
