Thursday, January 28, 2010 - The fruity nose and palate of blackcurrant, plum, and cherry is very deceiving. It seems that it is tightly integrated with tannin. The fact that this is 77% merlot, with the bullk of the remainder being cab franc, led me to expect a refined, balanced, and "Bordeaux-ish" blend. Not. With repeated tasting and some air, it is clear that this is over oaked. I mean OVER OAKED. I don't know if they throw oak chips or tannin powder in the mix, but after half a glass and 30 min of air, this is about as "manufactured" a wine as I've had in a long time. Reminds me of a chipped/powdered McManis travesty. The "big print" says, "love me, I'm a fruit bomb." The fine print says, "ha ha, gotcha." Given Steiman's high score, I should have known.
