97 Points

Monday, April 8, 2024 - 2nd bottle of a 3 pack directly from the winery. Full decant for 5 hours before going back into the bottle to the restaurant where the stopper was removed and we enjoyed it over 2-3 hours with Mary.

At the pnp into the decanter this was tart and red fruited. Slightly tannic and very, very young.

5-6 hours of air and almost every bit of tart red fruit leaves, the tannins quiet, the wine fills out/puts on weight and the wine really develops that classic VHR nose and palate which gives you just a taste of what this wine will become over the next decade. 96-97 tonight with 2 points of upside at least going forward.......paired very well with an Osso Buco ravioli in a black truffle cream sauce.

4/9/2024 10:09:00 AM - James.......probably hard to get on a trip to Napa these days as nobody is serving aged wines or has the newbies decanted long enough, generally. There will be lots of 92-95 pointers though!

4/10/2024 5:16:00 AM - James—if you are asking what in Bordeaux is that good? Some recents for me the I score around the same ‘98 Angelus, ‘96 Cos d Edtornal.
You can’t open a BDX ‘19 and have it drinking like an enjoyable ‘97 right now IMO, so you would have to find something that has aged to perfection.

    Great note on 19!

4/10/2024 6:46:00 AM - james...the '19 PC was a 96 for me a year ago, but DQ was set to strangle me for opening one........if in France you may be safe, away from her long arms, lol. Recent posters are still giving it 96 and 97.

4/10/2024 9:06:00 AM - I also scored the PC ‘19 quite well, but if you want a transcendental Bordeaux experience, you need to be more patient.

4/10/2024 9:09:00 AM - Sound words, DQ....you can't possibly get 'transcendental' with a young Bdx!
