March 25, 2015 - Decided to pop this in honor of our Founding Father, Lee Kuan Yew, who passed on this week. 1964 was a "year of consolidation" for Singapore. Enjoyed this bottle with my wife at La Barca with a delicious florentine steak.

Sour and dried plums, prunes, and red cherries on the palate, hint of lychee and slightly nutty chocolate on the finish, evidence of old oak, distinctly bordeaux nose, also showing choya, leather, soy sauce, lead, and some earth. Quite an attractive sweet nose. Garnet colour. Initially a bit dead when first popped, felt a bit thin and weak, then it rose from its slumber with a vengeance and tasted 20 years younger after 1 hour in the bottle (this kinda reminds me of one of Mr LKY's speech, "Even from my sickbed, even if you are going to lower me to the grave and I feel that something is going wrong, I will get up.” This bottle was very much alive! Good concentration. Beautiful, elegant tannins that melted in the mouth. 25 second finish. Still holding up well after 2 hours.

Here's a toast to you, our dear Mr LKY!

June 21, 2014 - Pruney fruit, raisins, hints of maggi spice, still bite, but a bit flat, lacking tension, slightly spirity, tired fruit.
