March 16, 2024 - Lots of citrus, hints of vanilla, little spice on the nose, mousse was quite aggressive to start with but after 30 mins settled nicely to show the lemon and apple fruit, decent weight, well integrated acidity and nice finish

February 21, 2024 - First opening it, a dominating bitter note. After 10 minutes the note integrated with the fruit to give a strong mandarin orange peel / Aperol spritz vibe. With hints of vanilla / chalk and brief whiffs of cherry, but largely that bitter orange peel. Long finish of that bitter orange peel.

After an overnight in the fridge with a quality stopper, totally transformed, much more than a night in the fridge usually does. Instead of bitter it was salty — very salty — but not brine / sea spray, more like whey. That mellowed a bit over time but was still the dominant note. The nose was beautiful and demure peaches and perfume, no hints of the salt.

All in all an odd wine. Not bad and quite interesting and clearly made with care, but not something I’ll seek out again especially for the price.

February 18, 2024 - Ski trip - Four wino familes; 2/16/2024-2/19/2024 (Wisp Resort): Medium expressive nose displaying ripe yellow fruit, baked apple, apple, brioche, honey, caramel, sweet spices and limestone. Medium concentration, generous yellow fruit, warm and round, medium fine and medium generous mousse, medium acidity and mineral, and a medium long finish. The nose is closer to Champagne but not the palate. Very well made but not a good QPR.

January 11, 2024 - Outstanding and only getting better I am sure. Managed to combine some lushness of texture with white flowers and citrus while having limited dosage and bracing acidity. Great stuff.

October 27, 2023 - Lemon, citrus rind, white stone fruit, Asian pear, and sea spray. Perfectly balanced and less sweet than many Ultramarines I’ve experienced historically, there is nice cut here on the back end that stays a bit linear but does well to keep the fruit in notable focus. I was worried this might be a little too rich for my tastes, but it was really beautiful and pleasurable. It’s not chiseled or mineral-driven necessarily, but the profile does everything right to stay in its proper lane. This is less gushing and ripe than Heintz BdBs I’ve previously had. Solid bottle here. Drink or hold for a bit. Personally, I like it younger and less overtly expansive in its current state. Let’s see how the 2019 Keefer compares…

Disg. 03/2021 if I recall correctly.
