May 11, 2024 - Deep ruby color. Notes of blackberry. Opened up nicely after 30 minutes, great on day 2. Ive had 1-2 bottles every year for the last decade, I think this has been my favorite.

April 14, 2024 - My first experience with Silver Oak. The price has always been a deterrent for me, but I decided to give it a try! It has a deep ruby color and aromas of vanilla, spice, smoke, and blackberries. It's a bold wine, but surprisingly approachable, almost bone dry. While it's not my ideal wine style, it's a well-made wine that can be easily appreciated. The price is still high, but the quality and enjoyment are prominent.

January 31, 2024 - What is it: Probably the most over-hated wine on the entire subreddit. The quintessential boomer-cab from every corporate expense account at overpriced steakhouses (and how I paid my rent for like 18 months).

Nose: Dark cherries, fully ripe blueberry, black-currant ish. Big american oak notes with the faintly bourbon-y spice profile. Surprisingly good separation and clarity.

Palate: Low acid, but the mouth feel is really nice. I expected a gloppy mess based on the reputation, but it's quite silky and midweight. Redish black fruit up front with a very black cherry/blueberry/table grape kind of fruit profile. Red raspberry and a tinge of savory herbs through the finish. Tannins are polished to a fault, but still present. Under it all is that bourbon-y baking spice thing from heavy but not overwhelming use of new oak.

Takeaway: This is a good wine! The value proposition is pretty fucked at $100, but if you want to impress someone who doesn't know anything about wine, you could do so much worse. It's polite, well made, and crowd pleasing, and there's something to be said for being inside the box, but doing the box really well.
