Community Tasting Notes 1

February 25, 2010 - Open 4 hours: The aromas on the nose are nice, scorched cedar, leather, smashed old plums, bitter chocolate. The age is evident on the nose. The palate starts nice enough, dark fruit, cedar again, dry clay. It drops pretty hard right in the middle of the palate, with bitter wood tannins and a healthy dose of alcohol on the finish. (14.8%) My wife struggled through a few tastes and then turned it away, saying "there is something rancid on the finish". It's totally drinkable but really not that great. Over the hill? I wouldn't expect that from this producer. Purchased recently at a store, perhaps the provenance on this bottle isn't the best. Doesn't taste flawed though...
