November 27, 2013 - this was nice but had lost all but a whiff of its earlier fruit component, i liked it with typical mature cab flavors, had a little bit too much of oak intrusion, the extended family didn't like it much but they don't drink aged wines and so maybe didn't know how to judge, they of course went for the '99 Silver Oak instead (which was very good and easier to drink)

December 11, 2012 - i like then old so this was very nice for me, for others the fruit had faded too much, drank on the plane to hawaii with Jerry and the gang, was outdone by the '77 Heitz Martha's we had when we got there

June 22, 2011 - George Kautzman Old Cali Cab Dinner (Mistral Restaurant, Redwood City, California): Very dark red violet color; mature, cassis, red currant, herbal nose; mature, tart currant, cassis, black fruit, herbal palate; medium-plus finish

December 10, 2009 - Ruby red, very little/no orange edge; @ 30 min very nice complex nose of bitter choc/mint with ripe red cherry bon bon like aroma- at 90 min much stronger minty nose although not the eucalyptus/mint of Heitz Martha's; Very fresh black cherry. black plum and date-like flavor with under tones of bitter choc. and bark-like herb flavors, major ripe blackberry fruit flavors with undertones of wet earth/mushroom at the end; very smooth integrated nose/mouth feel/ finishing flavors.
amazing wine from a very under appreciated vintage-- ridge Monte Bello, Mondavi Resv, Caymus, Montelena all also exceed expectations for that drought yr.

May 23, 2008 - Old Pinots and Cabs - Chez Niederauer and Plumed Horse (The Plumed Horse Restaurant, Saratoga, California): Dark red violet color; beef jus and black fruit nose; mature tart plum, black fruit and roasted meat palate; medium-plus finish 90+ pts.
